The Southport Waterfront Market is held every Wednesday morning (weather permitting) from May through the August. The location on the Fort Johnston Garrison Lawn overlooking the Cape Fear River is a treat itself. Browse the beautiful local produce, baked goods, and handcrafted items spread under ancient live oak trees. Enjoy the breeze off the river and music in the air as entertainment is always available.

Howl at the Moon

Join an island tradition and the largest beach party each month when the full moon rises out of the Atlantic Ocean. The “Howl” party (as it’s called by the locals) happens on East Beach Access 39 when the Moon rises and the entire group breaks into a collectve “howl!” around a blazing bonfire. Attendees bring food and drink to share and the Maritime Market brings huge pots of soup and some appetizers as well. After the Howl, head up to Mojo’s for their “moonrise to Midnight” bash – a moonlit post-Howl extravaganza on the porch.

NatureFest Southport is a day of nature, education, and fun on April 28, 2018

The Saturday, April 9, 2016 concert features Sallie Barris, an A-list Nashville songwriter who has had songs covered by top-level artists like Kathy Mattea, Martina McBride and Lee Ann Womack. Her song “Let the Wind Chase You”, recorded by Trisha Yearwood and Keith Urban, received a Grammy nomination.
The Friday, May 6, 2016 concert features Angela Easterling, a three-time Kerrville New Folk Finalist, a Telluride Troubadour Finalist and a two-time Wildflower Performing Songwriter Finalist. The Boston Herald named her song “The Picture” as the “Best Political Country Song” in their Year’s Best Music. Roger McGuinn, of the Byrds called her “a bright shining star on the horizon.” Angela released her 5th album, “Common Law Wife” in August, 2015.
